What can community access support include?
Community access support can cover a wide range of ordinary activities. What matters is whether the support is appropriate for the participant and the agreed support arrangement.
Everyday examples
- Attending appointments
- Grocery shopping and errands
- Going to the gym, pool or sporting activities
- Visiting community centres, libraries or local events
- Taking part in hobbies or recreational activities
- Meeting friends or building social connections
- Practising public transport or community-navigation skills
- Planning and completing practical tasks outside the home
Community access can be goal-focused
An activity can also be a way to work on confidence, planning, communication, budgeting, routines or other everyday skills.
It does not need to be complicated
Useful support might be as simple as getting groceries, attending an appointment or going for a walk in a preferred local area. The activity should make sense for the participant.
