Social and community participation under the NDIS
Social and community participation support is about helping a person take part in activities, interests and community life with the level of assistance they need.
What participation can look like
- Joining local activities or events
- Sport, recreation and hobbies
- Building confidence using community facilities
- Going to appointments or completing errands where support is needed
- Trying new activities or reconnecting with existing interests
Community access and skill development can overlap
An outing can involve more than transport or companionship. It may also create opportunities to practise planning, communication, budgeting, navigating community environments or other everyday skills.
Check your individual plan
What can be purchased with NDIS funding depends on the participant’s plan, the support being delivered and current NDIS rules. If you are unsure whether a proposed activity or support is funded, check your plan and current NDIS guidance or speak with your plan manager or other appropriate contact.
How Altitude approaches participation
We start with the person’s interests and goals, then discuss what practical support would help them participate.
